Marston’s Inns and Taverns is to become the first UK pub chain and brewer to install rapid electric vehicle EV chargers. Marston’s has partnered with Engenie commercial EV charger installers to install two rapid EV chargers at 18 of its pubs and restaurants by early 2019, before increasing the deployment throughout the rest of 2019.
The rapid EV charge points will be powered by 100% renewable energy and will allow up to three electric cars to charge at any one time. They will also be able to charge an electric car battery to 80% capacity in just under an hour! Marston’s customers will be able to pay to use the rapid EV chargers using a contactless bank card.
The head of facility management and projects at Marston’s, Andy Kershaw, said “Our goal is to become the most environmentally efficient pub business. By partnering with innovative and customer focused organisations like Engenie, we’ll continue to hold ourselves and the sector to the highest possible environmental standards”.
It is estimated that the deal between Marston’s and Engenie will remove up to 4.8 tonnes of nitrogen oxide from UK roads every year.
Marston’s Inns and Taverns, who have an estate of over 1,600 pubs across the UK, says the installation of rapid EV chargers will help to provide the building blocks for a national network of EV chargers.

- Little Castle, Markham Vale
- Poppy Fields, Maidstone
- Lingfield Farm, Middlesbrough
- Talardy, St Asaph
- Highland Gate, Stirling
- Pepper Mill, Stoke-on-Trent
- Kings Chamber, Thorne
- Ruddy Duck, Wakefield
- The Bakehouse, Welwyn
- Black Pole, Worcester
- Plas Coch, Wrexham
