Swedish energy giant Vattenfall is to install its first EV chargers in the UK. The company has signed a deal with contracting firm BMM Energy Solutions and South Norfolk council to install the EV charge points. The deal will see Vattenfall install and operate 20 electric car EV chargers across 5 car parks in South Norfolk. Vattenfall plans to power the EV chargers they install with 100% renewable energy, which will be provided by their British wind farms.
Vattenfall is aiming to build EV charging infrastructure in partnership with other local councils and private companies across the UK.
At present, electric car drivers who wish to use a Vattenfall EV charger must use the Vattenfall ‘Incharge App’ or ‘Charge Card’. However, the company has said that it is working on roaming agreements with other operators of EV charge points.
Keith Kiddie, cabinet member of South Norfolk council, said “Working with our partners, South Norfolk Council is once again leading the way in ensuring that our residents and businesses can benefit from modern technology. We are providing a network of charging points, in our car parks, to encourage and enable electric vehicle owners to shop in our market towns. We will also be giving our residents, living in town centres, the opportunity to consider using clean energy and buying an electric car, as they will now have access to charging points overnight”.
