Flintshire County Council have recently announced their plans to install more EV chargers in Flintshire, in order to attract tourists and visitors from across the country. There are currently just two EV charging points in the county and with the number of people in the UK converting to electric, the government wants to take a leading role and put plans in place to improve the availability of charging points.
The Council have suggested that tourist spots such as greenfield, Wepre and Talacre could be the some of the main locations in which the charging points could be installed, as well as leisure centres and Council offices.
As well as boosting tourism in the Flintshire area, the government is also aware of the benefits this could have on the environment, in regards to fuel emissions.
Flintshire Council have proposed their plans to act as an ‘enabler’, and discuss long-term lease agreements with organisations and businesses to encourage them to install the charge points, rather than the Council doing it themselves.
They are also planning to bid for Welsh Government funding in order to enhance and upgrade the existing electricity supply in the area.
Cllr Patrick Heesom has stated “The world is changing fast and we have got to be a leader in this”
