One of the largest car charging point operators in the world, ChargePoint has announced a 50x increase in its infrastructure, over the next 10 years to better serve the ever increasing number of electric cars on the road.
ChargePoint is greatly positioned to take up this ambitious project of operating up to 2.5 million EV charge points by 2025 as it is a company in which BMW, Mercedes (Daimler) and Siemens all hold shares in.
ChargePoint CEO Pasquale Romano has said in the announcement, “Our commitment to deploy 2.5 million charging spots by 2025 comes as the company embarks on the most significant period of growth in our history and in the midst of a revolution in transportation,”
The announcement, ChargePoint says, is based upon the assumption that there is going to be around 20 million electric vehicles in the globe in the same time frame. This is all a sign of growing demand for infrastructure and electric vehicles as nearly a third of the global auto market by 2030 will be electric vehicles.
Unfortunately ChargePoint doesn’t cater to domestic installs, only when you are out and about. This is still great news as it means if you find yourself out and about and need a boost an EV ChargePoint will be there!
