EV charge point operator Drive Energi has partnered with pub chain and brewer Greene King to build, own and run one of the UK’s largest retail located EV charging networks. The deal will run until 2040.
Drive Energi plans to roll out rapid EV chargers at over 300 Greene King pubs. The North West has been chosen as the region for initial deployment. The first EV charge points will be installed across the North West by the end of 2020. This includes Greene King sites in Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
The nationwide roll-out will take place in phases over the next three years.
The EV charge points will be powered by 100% renewable energy. They will be available to use via a ‘Pay As You Go’ tariff, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. No subscription is required and contactless payments will be accepted.
The deal between Drive Energi and Greene King will help to support the Governments commitment to support the growth of green, zero-emission technologies.
Head of estates at Greene King, Tony Hodgson, said: “We’ve been working hard developing our sustainability plans as we continue to build a greener business. With more people buying electric cars in a bid to be more environmentally friendly, we want to support our customers who come to dine or stay with us by offering electric charging ports in our pubs that are able to do so.”
