The majority of electric car owners charge their vehicles at home, and it is easy to see why. Benefits include not having to queue at a petrol station and not paying high prices for traditional diesel and petrol. Just simply plug your electric car in when you get home from work and it will be fully charged and ready to go again in the morning.
Home EV Charge Point
The fastest, safest and most convenient way to charge your electric car is with a dedicated home EV charge point. EV charge points are small wall mounted units, commonly known as wall pods, that are designed specifically for charging electric cars. EV charge points make home charging as simple as possible. Simply just plug-in your car, switch on the unit and let the car charge. Once the car is fully charged the charge point will turn itself off. Depending on your electric car you can have either a 3kW or 7kW EV charge point installed, at your home. A 3kW charge point will take around 6-8 hours to fully charge an electric car, whereas a 7kW will take between 3-4 hours.
When choosing a home EV charger you will have the choice of a tethered unit or a socketed unit. A tethered unit is a charge point which comes with a cable attached. A socketed unit is a charge point which comes with a socket built into the unit. You then need to purchase a cable to use with the charge point which is compatible with your electric car.
Home EV charge points are wired to your homes fuse box, making them completely safe. They will not put any additional strain on your homes wiring or circuits. The units also have overload protection and are weatherproof, so they can be used all year round and can be placed outside.
Electric Vehicle Home Charge Scheme
The Electric Vehicle Home Charge scheme is a grant from the governments Office For Low Emission Vehicles. The grant was introduced with the aim of encouraging drivers to make the switch to electric cars from vehicles with traditional combustion engines. The grant offers up to £500 towards the cost of the purchase and installation of a single point home EV charge point.
